MIAMI (November 8, 2017) – 777 Partners, a US based investment firm, announced today that it has acquired the intellectual property of World Airways, Inc., the iconic US airline known for its worldwide operational capabilities, and is planning to re-launch World Airways (“World”) as a low cost, long haul airline flying state of the art Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Initial funding for certification and aircraft acquisitions is being provided by 777 Partners. Discussions are underway with Boeing for an initial order for up to ten (10) 787-aircraft.

Ed Wegel, Founding CEO of World commented, “World has a rich and storied history dating back to 1948. It was once the world’s largest independent charter airline, and served the US military and other clients with great distinction for many years.

Today, we are proud to begin preparations to launch scheduled operations from the US to Asia and Latin America. We will be partnering with low cost, short haul carriers in the US and in the regions we serve to provide connecting traffic to and from our initial planned gateways. We plan to announce our new brand look and feel within the next few weeks, under the direction of our Founding CMO, Freddie Laker.”

Managing Partner of 777 Partners, Josh Wander, said “777 Partners is humbled by the opportunity to participate in the relaunch of World, a seminal brand in the history of US commercial aviation. We are determined to pay proper homage to World’s rich heritage by delivering a transformative flying experience rooted in safety, technology and service, to the large segment of the traveling public historically priced out of international travel.”

CALIFORNIA WILD FIRES

This message was sent by Barbara Zien Musser

Subject: Diane Malnekoff Fire Relief

Dear Friends,

Our friend Diane Malnekoff, who has lived in Santa Rosa for several decades, lost her home and all her belongings in the recent Tubbs Fire.  She was awakened at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 8, to clanking sounds.  When she got up, she saw the horrifying glare in the hills.  As she was struggling to lift up the non-functioning electric garage door, several firefighters appeared and helped her.  They ran with her through her home as she grabbed a few things then instructed her to evacuate immediately.  Because of the heavy traffic jams and fires leaping the freeway, she could not head south to friends. Not sure where to go, she drove north and ultimately found a hotel.  Diane is now staying in Novato, (Marin County) CA, with Judy Keithley Denk, her roommate from their “stewardess” days.

This has been devastating for Diane and heartbreaking for her friends who desperately want to help and show their love and concern.  To this end, we felt the best way to support her would be to create a fund.  We explored some of the online fundraisers and found fees ranging from 3-8+%.

Preferring that Diane receive the full amount of any donations, we have opened the “Diane Malnekoff Fire Relief ” account at Wells Fargo Bank. If you wish to make a contribution, you may do so in one of the following ways:

  1. Electronic transfer through your own bank to Wells Fargo Bank, Diane Malnekoff Fire Relief, Account # 1650082637, (Routing # 122000247, if needed), or
  2. A cash or check deposit at any Wells Fargo Branch: checks should be made payable to Diane Malnekoff Fire Relief, with #1650082637 and “for deposit” on the back. (Please notify me if your deposit was in cash), or
  3. Snail mail. (Please send me your check made payable to Diane Malnekoff Fire Reliefand I will make the deposit for you).

We will create a contributor list that will eventually be given to Diane.  Contributors will receive periodic updates about Diane and her fund.  At this point, Diane has no idea that this fund is being created.  If you know of others who might want to join in our support of Diane, feel free to pass this on to them.

Thank you so much for your generosity; any amount will be greatly appreciated.

** 2017 Las Vegas Reunion **

“A Great Time With Great Friends”

The WOA 2017 Las Vegas Reunion is in the books.  Lyman Hitch put together a great event at the Orleans Hotel that started with an evening cocktail party on Sunday, September 10.  The next two days were filled with plenty of “hospitality”, remembering old times, telling old stories, taking plenty of photos, and having some “adult beverages.  Some attended a great Cirque de Soleil show while others tried their luck at the game tables and slots.  It all ended with a buffet dinner and entertainment on Tuesday evening, September 12.

** The Shorebird is Closing **

The most famous and legendary WOA “Hangout” on Waikiki Beach is closing soon.  We all remember selecting our evening meal of steak or seafood and cooking our own meal on the grill at the Shorebird.  For years it was “the place to go” for a great meal and even better Mai-Tai’s.
