In 2014 World Airways management closed the doors on one of the finest airlines in aviation history.  For Sixty-Six years World Airways provided America and the World the most professional aviation services available in the industry.  Whether supporting the American public, American troops, or private contractors, the men and women of World Airways answered the call to serve our passengers with their personal dedication and professional performance.  Wherever you are today, take time to pause and remember the impact you made upon the aviation industry.  Remember the friends and colleagues you made during those years.  Remember the places you visited.  And most of all, Remember the legacy you have left that others can only emulate.

You Were the Finest of the Finest …..

A Tribute to Richard “Dick” Kalman

“Back in 1998, Dick originated the idea of a website that could be used for the benefit of the employees of World Airways.  It was his insight, talent, hard work, and his commitment to his friends and fellow workers, coupled with his dedication to keeping the World Airways Family together, that made these websites possible.”

Thank’s Dick …. From All of the members of the World Airways Family.

Hi fellow WOA alums. It’s been a long time since I flew but I still have fond memories of places I went and people I met from 1968 to 1970 when I was a flight attendant.
Now retired from a 40+ year career in Journalism, I’ve been living in Arizona for nearly 13 years, I am married to a semi-retired commercial photographer whom I met in the news business. A Vietnam veteran who was based in Saigon when World flew there, he has a photograph he took on his WOA flight home that I’d like to share in hopes that another World retiree might recognize who the FA is and can tell her. Thanks for letting me know how to post a photo.? Ro Logrippo (Spinelli)

Warren Cook was living at Brookdale Assisted Living. Once a month a resident friend of mine would invite me there for Sunday Brunch. It gave me the opportunity to visit with Warren. On Feb 11th, he was not present, and I learned he was not well. Subsequently, I was told he passed away on the 20th. For your interest I have attached his obituary.

Margie Sikes and Mike Stephens spent Xmass here as usual, but, on the way home they stopped to walk the dog.
Margie fell and smashed her upper leg bone.
She has had surgery and is now in rehab.
Her phone there is 415-479-5161 in Room 15C. She should be out soon.
She has had several WOA visitors and that helps….

All of you, please come to the Las Vegas REUNION in 2017. The dates are 9/10-9/13. Mark your calendars block that time because I don’t know how many more I can do. The room price is $46 per night plus taxes. The meeting rooms & banquet price is $65 this year due to an increase in salaries & food cost. It is still cheap considering all we get for it. Come have a small vacation, I would love to see you all.

Would greatly appreciate anyone who was involved with the WOA 1975 April 12 Orphan lift to LAX. I was the Medical Director who flew with everyone to the Philippines and then along with a news cameraman flew to Saigon on a DC-8 . We gathered many orphans and the next day flew them out on two USAF C-141s to the Philippines and loaded most of them on the 747 flight to LAX. I would appreciate talking to anyone regarding historical information.Sincerely,

What a feeling of appropriateness and satisfaction at seeing the tombstone RIP on this website. As disgusting as WOA unnecessarily going out of business, after all our hard work, pay cuts, long duty days, slavery rules up to the last minute, the reason on this tombstone is so right on! Congratulations to whomever submitted this.Liz Ayala

Am working on a WOA memoir. Only the good, the grand, and the genial. Won’t mention your drunkenness and debauchery in Frankfurt…..sorry, that was me!! Such is Life. If I don’t mention your name, it won’t be because I’ve forgotten; it’s only my name that I sometimes forget. Thanks for the great laughs, the wonderful times (never to be repeated). Of course I hope to include our beloved “Mrs. Wiggins” another main star of WOA. If I was in your WOA life, and you want to be included, email me.

Do not forget those years in Ground School and the instructors such as Ken (Porkchop) Dovel. We all learned in those classrooms. I was blessed to be part of that team and do hope we added value to our magnificent crews.Enjoy your writing, an experiences of a lifetime. Perfection-Not Correction.

I flew for Transocean Airlines for many years, out of Oakland, California, starting in 1951. The ten years with Transocean were ripe with unusual adventures. Many of our pilots went with World Airways when Transocean Airlines went bankrupt. I elected to go with the FAA as an airline operations inspector in Los Angeles. That became a hazardous decision when I was given the assignment to correct the very serious problems at United Airlines that made possible many of the airline’s endless series of crashes.I put up an internet site for Transocean Airlines: http://www.transoceanairlines.com. Anyone with interesting experiences, who would like to get them posted, is welcomed to send them to me for posting. My email is stich@rodneystich.com.

I’m so happy to have this site to recall such a wonderful time in my life! Traveling was the most wonderful education and seeing cultures I could only have dreamed about. I have fond memories with wonderful fellow crew members. Thank you for taking time to put this together. Always in search of friends I’ve lost touch with.
